A decentralized cloud computing network started a governance vote on Oct. 26, 2026, on abandoning its own chain in favor of Solana.
The vote remains open up to 10:02 a.m. ET on Nov. 2, 2026, and the result is not yet set.
Early tallies from Oct. 27 showed about 98% in favor. Participation had already cleared quorum, but the count can still shift. The system being voted on is Akash, a marketplace in which computing power is rented.
For now it is hosted on akashnet-2, a standalone chain assembled with Cosmos tooling.
Self-custody holders will connect a Cosmos wallet and choose a Solana address. No SOL has to be held for the transfer.
Any AKT on another Cosmos-linked chain must come back to akashnet-2 before using the portal. AKT from other chains is not accepted by the portal, as the team described it. Customer balances held on exchanges are moved by the exchanges on their own timelines.
Moves from console wallets happen automatically without extra steps.
AKT would cross over by way of a one-way portal on a 1:1 basis.
What gets sent leaves the old chain, so the overall total does not change. AKT retains its ticker along with six decimals.
Nothing sent through the portal can be reversed after the transfer is confirmed. AKT on Solana remains unavailable until a vote passes and two audits finish. The team will say when once the steps are done.
Approval would clear the way for AKT to launch on the Solana chain. It would be issued under SPL, the token standard shared across Solana.
Governance can still block the marketplace cutover up to shortly before it happens.
Tokens moved through the portal stay moved once it opens for any holder. Wallets and exchanges could add Solana AKT after it is live on their own timelines.
That addition can precede the marketplace move since the two are separate. Other infrastructure networks already moved from their own chains to Solana before this one. The team says the path is tested for networks like this.
This vote leaves the marketplace where it is for the moment. Live leases and governance remain on akashnet-2 for the time being.
The marketplace cannot relocate until audits, rehearsals and a separate cutover vote are done.
That vote is what would pin down the cutover point in advance. Once cutover is done, fresh deployments would go to Solana rather than the old chain.
The old chain would be retired in stages and then halt after that. Providers would upgrade and register again on Solana themselves. Deployment files remain with their tenants through the move.
At the halt, validators would give up their role for good.
The team asked the public for a host chain on Dec. 15, 2025. Every hard requirement was cleared by both Solana and an Ethereum layer-2 in the review. The team went with Solana and outlined its reasons on Oct. 26, 2026.
The stated reasons were lower costs under load, no single operator and a base of peer infrastructure networks. Running on Solana would end the network’s need for its own chain in the new setup.
Its transactions would be confirmed by validators on Solana rather than its own validators.
The Solana Foundation made an offer of engineering and audit support to the team. The team added that the plan does not rest on that help in order to go ahead.
What holders decide is whether a working network gives up its own chain through their ballots. The result shapes where its compute market will live in the long run.
